 September's Meeting

Chris Frey

Editor's note: This month's meeting will be at the usual time on September 27 2005, but a different location. Read on.

Kurt recently informed us that Tenny Street Roadhouse has closed - in an email he received:

"We regretfully announce that that Tenny Street Roadhouse has closed. Over the past two years we tried to provide world-class American roots music and authentic Cajun fare. In large part we succeeded, but the venture never generated enough revenue to sustain itself. We are thankful to you for being a patron. I hope that we have at least provided you with some great memories of great times."

This has lead to discussions about future club meeting locations. While at the Michigan Beer Summer Festival, Doug Beedy (head brewer of Fort Street Brewery) offered to have a club meeting at their relatively new brewery in Lincoln Park. We followed up with him recently and he has agreed to host the September meeting for the club. With this offer, he has also agreed to give us the history and speak on the brews available (you can see them at http://www.fortstreetbrewery.com/beer.html ).

They have asked that we hold our meeting in the dining area, and once the meeting is over, that we bring our homebrews into the brewery area where Doug will set up a table for us. While not ideal, they are being accommodating. A recent article in the Michigan Brewers Guide states:

"You can get a burger for $2.75 and the most expensive sandwich, steak on a bun, is only $6.95. Quesadillas and their popular fajitas run $4.95 - $7.95, wraps $3.95 - $5.95, and baskets $6.55 - $7.95. If you go during happy hour, 3-6 Mon. - Fri. all pints are only $2.50. You can eat, drink and leave a tip all for $10.00 or less and this ain't no greasy spoon neither"

MBG Enthusiast Brewery Tours - Mike Berman

The Michigan Brewers Guild has scheduled 8 brewery tours to occur on Saturdays over the course of the next few months. These tours are free to Enthusiast members and their guests, with an RSVP due no less than 2 weeks prior to each tour. I joined the Guild to take advantage of some VIP options at the beer festival a few weeks ago, and would be more than happy to take some folks along to tours I'll be attending.

Here's the schedule, although I'm not certain as to which events I'll definitely be going to:

Five Years Ago in Ye Olde Brew News.

Here is a report on the Y2K Beer-B-Que in Dearborn, MI.

Once again , the annual Beer-B-Q proved that you can never have too much of a good thing. The picnic and party lasted all day, and despite the efforts of the Dearborn Parks Department Personnel, well into the night. Kudos to Jim Racine for organizing this annual event. The idea of having a "chili cook-off" worked out well. Congratulations to Neal Petty for winning the cook-off. Rich Byrnes brought his Karaoke machine which proved extremely popular. Jim Racine also deserves credit for organizing the children's games, including the cream pie version of musical chairs....
