 June's Meeting

The next meeting will be held back at Bailey's Pub 'N Grille in Dearborn on Tuesday, June 22. Bailey's is located on the southeast corner of Michigan and Mason. Their address is 22091 Michigan Avenue and their phone number is 313-277-3212. As usual, the thirsty hardcore who want dinner will start arriving around 5PM, people will drift in for an hour or so, and we will start our meeting around 6PM.

We will be meeting in the lounge in the basement at Bailey's.  Management at Bailey's has asked us to try to use the door closer to Michigan Ave on Mason. This door is right by the stairs to the downstairs lounge.

Summer Picnic

Chris Frey

Some of you may remember that last year the F.O.R.D. club passed on a summer picnic and we instead had a very agreeable multi-club Christmas party - an instant tradition that we will do again this year. During that evening, we spoke with the AABG members and they offered to integrate the FORD club into their summer picnic and that we would integrate the AABG into the annual holiday party.

Well, circle your calendars for July 10th - this will be the picnic date!

Fellow AABG'er Randall deBeauclair will host this years affair. It begins at 1:00ish and goes till after dark. For directions Randy suggests contacting him directly - he says MapQuest can throw you for a loop when you put in his address. Also - if you pretty certain you will attend, he would appreciate a call or email with who, how many and all that so he can prepare appropriately.

Randy writes:

Mike O'Brien is cooking a pig (should be ready around 4:00pm) but the official start time is 1:00pm. Some other attractions that were confirmed at Friday's meeting: -Jason Henning will be delivering and setting up Mike O'Briens soft serve ice cream machine. -Mike O. will be bringing his 20 x 30 tent to set up. -Mike O. said he will try to procure the inflatable moon-walk that he had at last years Beer-B-Que. -Mike's tap wagon will be here, as well as a four handle jockey box of my own. -After dark there will be a bonfire, in the fire pit only please ;-)

It would be helpful if people brought their seating and small tables, and of course judicious amounts of homebrew and a side dish are requested.

Editors note - This was published in April's newsletter.  Since the mailing list still apparently hasn't come back to life, look here for information.

Ouch! That tinyurl link seems to be having problems.

Five Years Ago in Ye Olde Brew News.

From the June 1999 newsletter ....  A review of the Bonfire Bistro and Brewery

Gabrielle Palmer

My cousin and her family took me out to dinner for my birthday at the new brewpub in Northville called the Bonfire Bistro & Brewery. Located on the north side of 7 Mile Rd., west of Haggerty (in front of Home Depot), phone 248-735-4570. I understand that this brewpub is owned by the same people that own Grizzly Peak in Ann Arbor. Upscale, on the expensive side for brewpubs (similar to Copper Canyon in that respect, but they both serve much more than the basic pub fare), very friendly wait staff. They also have a kids menu and supply each kid with an "Etch-A-Sketch" to play with (big bonus for moms & dads).

Food:

I had the penne pasta with portabello mushrooms, onions and peppers in a tomato-fennel sauce, plus a cup of their onion porter soup. Yummy! My cousin Karen had an amazing Michigan maple-glazed pork chops with cranberry peach chutney and a baked sweet potato. It was too good for words! I got a free desert for my birthday, so I had the pecan porter and vanilla malt ice cream with hot fudge sauce and whipped cream... delicious!

Now the important part...

Beer:
They offer 4 standard tap beers and a rotating 5th tap (seasonal), as well as, 2 cask conditioned beers always available. They have samplers with 5, 6 or 7 beers. Of course, I got the 7 beer sampler...
4 standard tap beers:

5th tap (seasonal):

2 cask conditioned:
Both of these beers were warm (not cool, but warm) and very flat. These beers should be cellar temperature (maybe their cellar is too warm) and lightly carbonated (not totally flat)...

Impressive for a new brewpub, can't wait to see how they develop...

Editor's question -  I haven't traveled up to the "Bonfire" recently.  How are they doing ??
